Bed Boards

Posted on: 30th October 2024

A huge thank you to the Torbay Hospital League of Friends for generously funding £12400 funding for our new above patient bed boards, which are now up in wards at Torbay Hospital.

Above bed boards are really important for patient care as they provide clear care requirements for patients, at a glance. All the information above each patients bed is individualised and specific to their needs, this will help the way all our staff care for our patients.

Our previous boards did not have a standard template, so for staff rotating across the organisation, there was different information displayed above patients’ beds which made it more difficult to be able to care for a patient, ‘at a glance’.

By having a level of standardisation, this provides consistent outcomes, an improved quality of care, improvement in efficiencies and as a result, improved patient safety.

These new boards support our person-centred care agenda, and where possible, these boards are completed with patients and their families, to ensure we capture what matters most to our patients.

For our visiting and rotational staff, this improves our patient safety element, because they will know what to expect and how to provide care for our patients.
