GARDEN PARTY

Posted on: 22nd June 2015

Once again due to the British weather the garden party needed to be held inside on the tennis courts of the Palace Hotel, Torquay. The Chairman and a happy band of volunteers tested the grounds yet unfortunately the table legs started to sink and the decision was made.
Early indications are about 500 people attended and were entertained by Peter “MAC” Dell and 12 year old Terri Kate Lee who mesmerised the audience with her beautiful voice.  Then it was the turn of the Morris dancers and the expectation of gentle stick tapping and bell ringing was quickly quashed as these were the Grimspound Border Morris dancers who took to the floor with a grunt hitting each other’s clubs with power and a yelp and with their blackened faces kept the whole crowed entertained.
Other entertainment was the Marisa Burgoyne School of Dance so there was something for everyone.
The event was opened by international bestselling author Lesley Pearse was absolutely fantastic visiting each stall talking to everyone.
The League's Chairman David Rogers said the people of Torbay came out and supported us, several companies from around the bay offered support and gave donations and it was fantastic to hear the visitors on their way out saying “see you next year”
